Batt Insulation Services For Commercial and Residential

Batt is an insulation made in sheets or rolls that is used to help prevent heat loss. Batt is made out of fiberglass, mineral wool, plastic or natural fibers. It is great for insulation installation in a residential property.

It is known for being the most commonly used insulation. There are two types of batts: Faced and unfaced. Below are the differences between the two.

Unlike faced batt, they are ideal for already insulated places that need reinforcement. Unfaced is typically used in areas where no vapor barrier is needed. It is also great for interior walls.

Batt tends to be very flexible making it a great choice for installation leaving no visible gaps between studs, rafters and joists blocks. Because it is good at covering any gaps, it will reduce the transfer of heat from the outdoors to the indoors. Batt insulation continues to be effective because it does not settle over time. batt is a great option when it comes to reducing outdoor/indoor noise.

Faced Batt

This type is a kraft paper attached to one side acting as a vapor barrier. The paper is stapled onto the framing with the paper side facing the home’s interior to install it. Faced is best for uninsulated spaces, such as in vaulted ceilings, exterior walls, and exterior basement walls.

Unfaced Batt

This type has no kraft paper attached to them and lacks a vapor barrier. Unfaced batt is held into its place by the pressure in joints and rafters during installation.
Unlike faced batt, they are ideal for already insulated places that need reinforcement. Unfaced is typically used in areas where no vapor barrier is needed. It is also great for interior walls.

What Is Batt Insulation Used For?

Like the other two insulation methods, batt can be installed in residential homes specifically in the following areas:
  • Unfinished walls, including foundation walls

  • Floors and ceilings

  • Spacious areas like attics

What Is The R-Value For Batt?

R-value is determined by a grading system used to check the Insulation’s effectiveness. The higher the R-Value, the more insulated the material is. Depending on the location of the batt insulation, it could require a different layer of insulation material. Typically, batt has an R-value of 3.1-3.4 per inch in thickness.

Batt is usually made in rolls and pre-cut panels which come in a variety of widths for exterior walls:

2×4 holding R-13 or R15 batts

2×6 walls can use R-19 or R-21.
