3 tricks For Keeping your garage insulated For Winter

At times, the garage may be overlooked when it comes to winter preparation. You may be asking yourself why it’s so important to upkeep your garage. Well, with temperature changes around the corner, this may affect how insulated your garage may be therefore affecting the temperature of your home or business. A garage holds some of our most important assets such as our cars, yard equipment, tools and storage items. By keeping your garage insulated, this protects some of your most important items. I will share some of my easy tricks necessary to prepare your garage for the cold weather.

Prepare the Garage Door

The garage door plays a bigger role than we might think in keeping our homes from reaching cold temperatures. First, check to see if there is wear and tear on your door. Inspect for any cracks, holes or crevices surrounding the door frame. Check for any squeakiness when opening and closing. The squeakiness could be the two metals touching which can cause wear and tear over time. After inspecting your door, decipher whether or not it’s time to have it repaired or insulated. Before the cold weather worsens, it’s best to get one of our professionals to come test the insulation levels. garage insulation in dallas

Seal any Air Leaks

If there are any holes or cracks in the garage door, walls or ceiling, it’s best to hire a professional that can use insulation with a high R-value. R-value is a grading system that rates how insulated the material is. Some areas may need a higher R-value while others not so much. In this case, having insulation such as spray foam with a higher R-value might be beneficial for reducing outdoor temperatures from reaching your home. You can make a checklist of all the holes that you see. As long as you are aware of what needs to be upgraded then you are the path for success. attic insulation dallas

Choose the right insulation to fit your needs

There are many great options that we suggest helping support your garage. Below are a few that are most recommended: Fiberglass: This a great option if you are on budget, it is also a commonly used insulation that effectively works.  Cellulose: This is recommended and easy to apply to holes, cracks or crevices. It is also an environmentally friendly material if you are looking for a “green” insulation option. Rigid Foam: This is generally affordable and great for the garage door and thinner walls.  Spray Foam:  This an airtight and energy efficient spray which provides great quality. It may be on the expensive side, but it is great if you are looking for something higher end.
